Are you just a number when buying a new car from a dealer?
Have you ever been on a test drive, had to hand over all your details, been given the keys, driven around for 20 minutes in an area you don’t really know, in a car you’re completely unfamiliar with, then arrived back to the car yard and your salesperson is already with others and you can’t even find a place to park? Why is that? You’re looking at making the 2nd biggest purchase of your life, but your salesperson is already looking for his/her next customer.
This is called ‘head hopping’. It’s where a salesperson speaks to as many customers (heads) as he/she possibly can because it’s a numbers game. Well we think Housie and Lotto are numbers games, buying a new car shouldn’t be.
If this is how you’re treated BEFORE a sale. Why expect something more once you’ve signed up? The number of customers we’ve had tell us they received no follow up from the salesperson after visiting a dealership is astounding.
You need someone who is focussed on you and your requirements. It is so important you get everything you want on your new car. If a salesperson is not focussing on you, that’s where things can be missed. It’s a bit late when you get the car home to realise what you really wanted, has been forgotten. Is that your signature at the bottom of the contract? If so…… You’re an owner.
There are many fantastic salespeople working in the industry, but it is really is pot luck whether you will get one on your next car shopping expedition. This is an industry which rewards salespeople on their ‘numbers’ and how much PROFIT they make for the dealer.
Don’t get us wrong — a dealer has every right to make a profit. It costs a lot of money to keep the doors of a dealership open. But the nature of the business is that salespeople face a lot of pressure to close the deal on the day. Most of the time. That’s NOT going to be the best deal for YOU!
